We believe that this vision will work out for gods purpose

We are a church with a God given purpose, one which seeks to further the Kingdom of God and transform the community and nations around us. The vision given to us for Emmanuel is:

We are a community of gods people
Under the lordship of Jesus, chosen for his purpose

To raise his sons and daughters in maturity to fulfil their purpose and potential in him

Celebrating his love, grace and mercy and being a practical demonstration and reflection of the fathers love

A refuge with gods love at its centre, bringing wholeness through the application of His kingdom principles and the power of the Holy Spirit

A beacon visible for all to see

We are Emmanuel, God with us.

Three Pillars

We have seen this vision begin to take hold and to transform the lives of those in Emmanuel. We believe that this vision will work out for gods purpose and that we will see even more transformation in lives of individuals, the communities, charities, work places, schools and nations that we are connected with. The ministry of Emmanuel is built upon three Pillars which underpin and describe our purpose, they are Family, Refuge, Beacon described below.

Family

There has been a revolution in the idea of family in the last 20 years. Yet the principles of Love, faithfulness, respect remain. Our need to be accepted, to belong, to be a part of a community that is larger than who we are, that supports and appreciates us for who we are and challenges us and equips us to be the best we can be. I am not sure the idea of family has changed so much when the basic needs we all share have not changed. Family and community are at the very heart of our new vision.

1 Peter 2 v 9 9But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 10Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

Refuge

The modern world can be a very hard place to live. Life moves so fast it is easy to get run over. Sometimes we all feel need for that place of peace and calm. A place were we can restore our strength, our energy and our passion for life. A safe place were we are accept for who are and know that we will not be attacked or criticized but encouraged and uplifted. Jesus said 28“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11. The Kingdom of God is just such a place of peace and restoration. This is the good news that Jesus brought and is Emmanuel’s second pillar.

31He told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. 32Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches.”

Beacon

Gods word tells us we are made in God’s image. This means that at the heart of every human being there is gold. It may not be visible or evident in their behaviour or in our personal experience, but it is none the less there. It also means that we were made to love, not the emotional or physical love but the choice to love. Jesus brought a message of love and acceptance to the ordinary people of his time. To people like you and me with all our failings and mistakes. It is a message of hope for the future, not just when we die, but for tomorrow. That all our tomorrows can be better, filled with more peace, more love, more joy. Emmanuel is made up of ordinary people with all their failings and faults seeking to be a conduit of the love, the peace, the joy and the life, which Jesus brings. To be a beacon of that hope which is in Jesus and the kingdom of God. It is a new way of living, a new way of thinking as revolutionary and relevant today as it was 2000 years ago.

Matthew 5 v 14 14“You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. 15Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.
